Traces of the Past and Future: The 30th Anniversary Exhibition of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre

Period of the Exhibition: 23.10 - 10.11.2019 (Concluded Successfully)

Foyer, Auditoria Building, Hong Kong Cultural Centre

Towered at the former railroads of the Kowloon-Canton Railway, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre has been overlooking the Victoria Harbour for a good thirty years since 1989. Its modern architecture, highlighted by the adjacent historic red-bricked Clock Tower, is the iconic scenery of the vibrant Asia’s world city. Moving forward, the Cultural Centre continues to go hand in hand with the Hong Kong performing arts scene.

The founding of the Cultural Centre opened the door to the international world of performing arts. For decades, it has been the venue for a wealth of world-class performances of various scales. It has been also the incubator of local theatre artists, companies and practitioners, contributing to a diversified and exciting art scene. The Cultural Centre has been playing an indispensable part in the arts development of Hong Kong.

In two sections, the exhibition looks back and ahead. Travelling in a train of time, visitors are invited to encounter the many meeting lines along the Centre’s 30-year pathway, exploring and understanding how performing arts in Hong Kong came into its present shape. Valuable artefacts, electronic commemorative books re-enacted autographs of 90 renowned figures both local and worldwide as well as various interviews are displayed in the area. Looking back at how the Cultural Centre worked together with other LCSD performing arts venues in Hong Kong, envisioning also the coming opening of the East Kowloon Cultural Centre, a cultural landscape beyond is projected in the exhibition.
